Not Quite A Fool.....

Today is my birthday. I am not quite a fool :o) We were supposed to be racing on the Isle of Wight but bailed when we saw the forecast of wall-to-wall rain. Normally, this wouldn't have put us off, but we go on the ferry as foot passengers, cycle half an hour to get to the race venue once docked, run eight miles across exposed cliffs, cycle back to the boat, sail back to Lymington and drive home. All in all it would have been a cold, wet and generally unpleasant experience, so we abandoned it and went out to lunch instead. Far more civilised. We'll run tomorrow instead.

M has spoiled me: a new Garmin 235, which tracks heart rate (lowest resting so far is 54) as well as a host of other useful stats, which it then uploads automatically via bluetooth onto my phone. I am going data mad :o) It's an upgrade on my old Garmin and receives emails and texts as well as telling you how far you've run/ walked/ cycled and at what pace. It also shouts at you to MOVE! if it thinks you've been idle too long. We've laughed about this capacity of it before- I got M the same model for his birthday last year and half an hour after he's run 18 miles it will shout at him to MOVE! again. Magic :o)

The dogs got me Mr Men and Little Miss capri running leggings, and L a delicious box of Ferrero Rochers. Yum. Spoilt, I am.

Hope all are well,

CT (one year older) :o)

  1. A very Happy Birthday CT!!!
And a very wise move not to race, under the circumstances. There will always be other races to compete in.
I love your new gadget, although I'm not sure I would like to be shouted at - I'd end up throwing it at something.
Enjoy the rest of your day. X

  2. Happy birthday, hope your day is good after your meal, can't blame you for not running, the journey home would have been horrible, we are snug and warm, hubby and I home alone today, bliss.

  3. Happy Birthday 😻. I think you made a wise choice. My Garmin does the same with the move announcements. I did turn it off. As you say being told to move after hearty exercise is bizarre! Enjoy the rest of your day. B x

  5. Happy Happy Birthday !
    Love all your gifts.
Good point about not running. I remember you posting on this race and it looked cold and muddy then.

    Let there be CAKE !

  6. Happy Birthday. Mt Garmin sent me right into the middle of a football match in Bristol today, then on the way home it sent me the country route - right back into the middle of the football match. Time for a new satnav.

  8. Happy birthday......sounds like you enjoyed your special day.
I have a fitbit with all that info and I absolutely love it. I have learned a lot about myself :)

You made the right decision, lunch was the better option.

  9. Happy Birthday! I remember my first (and only) Garmin GPS tracker. The GPS thingamajig had to be worn separately on the upper arm and it was quite unreliable. These devices have come a long way since then, yours looks quite elegant. Those Ferrero Rochers will come in handy after your next run :-)

  10. Hope you're having a very happy birthday. I'm laughing about the instructions to move. I fear it would not like me very much. Maybe I could attach one to Bert. Lovely, thoughtful gifts, and lunch out sounds very civilised. CJ xx

  12. Happy Birthday CT! A very wise move to cancel I think - going out for lunch is a much better way to spend your birthday than being cold and wet! Brilliant presents too. xx

  13. Happy Birthday! I'm a bit late to say it. 😊 Your Isle of Wight trip sounded good fun but only in the sun, maybe it will be better weather next year. I look forward to seeing your leggings in action soon. x

  18. Hey CT,
Just catching up with your blog. Many happy returns to you!! I'm glad that you had a lovely day, with some nice gifts. It was my birthday a few days ago, so we must share a star sign, although I'm not sure if I'm a true Aries to be honest!
    Much love to you,
    Leanne xx

  19. Fab leggings, and it sounds like it was the right decision to not do the run.
I have that watch too, although I turned off the move alert as it really annoyed me (and I don't want it beeping at me in staff meetings and things).

  20. #utterleyrubbish...happy belated birthday!! My garmin does that too. Makes me laugh every time when I tell it off for telling me to move when I am lying prone in the bath trying to recover from some ridiculous run!!! Slightly jealous that yours does heart rate as well though xxx
