Not A Great Start To My New Year- A Post By Ted

Hello Friends Around The World. I am not feeling too chipper today. On Wednesday, I had a Funny Turn at Granny's and when Mum checked me over she found a small cut on the back of my neck. It was washed and dressed with honey and beeswax (these are Mum's cures for everything) and we all thought that was that.

Only then it started itching.

So I scratched it.

Of course.

And then it Got Worse.

Mum trimmed the fur, washed it again with salt water and dressed it again with her special homemade beeswax salve, and - how embarrassing is this - last night I had my back paw wrapped up in a sock and taped to my leg to stop me scratching it! I whimpered all last night, I can tell you (mainly because it was itching and I felt uncomfortable, but also because Mum and Dad's bedroom is right above ours).

This morning, I have been to the V.E.T.

I can hardly believe it.  It's only the second day of the year for heaven's sake and already I've had to see the V.E.T. And it was an emergency appointment. She was very nice though, and told Mum I've got Wet Eczema (luckily Mum knew how to spell that without looking it up because she's had patients with it before) and it has to be dressed with honey and a bandage twice a day and I've got some antibiotics because it really isn't very nice and I don't fell well. So now I've got this stupid blue bandage wrapped round my neck and I am feeling very sorry for myself indeed.

The only good thing about all of this is that I get to have some cheese with my medicine. Poppy is also allowed some cheese (for looking after me), which I don't mind but I think she should probably get a smaller piece as her neck is fine.

Hopefully I'll be better in a day or two, but in the mean time not even Pigeon Watching is helping.

Mournfully yours,

Ted.

  1. Do you realise what you have on your hands, C.T.? A dog that can write as eloquently as yours could be your retirement plan.

  2. I've not seen your blog before, Ted, but I do sympathize! You poor little doggy! But with the right treatment you should be fine soon and won't need to see the V.E.T. again ... well, not for a while!

  3. Oh Ted, wet eczema sounds like the pits. And lucky V E T for getting to see you so soon again! I'm sure you'll have lots of adoring fan mail, like this, urging you to be a good puppy, leave the W.E alone and get well soon!

  5. Oh dear.....I hope the infection soon clears up. Not nice for a busy dog. That Manuka honey and the anti biotics should do the trick.

    Happy 2016 to you all!

  6. Woof woof Ted, Harry here. So sorry you're not well and not even pigeon watching can bring you round. I've been to the vets today as well, my ears have become quite red and itchy and even though mum has been cleaning them with nice soft soothing wipes, they didn't get better.
I enjoyed the sensation so much my back leg was waving about in the air and I just couldn't control it, which made mum laugh.
So I have an ear infection 'otitis externa' and drops from the VET (who is called Karen and very nice). I feel fine Ted, so am as bouncy as ever, but really hope you start to pick up soon. Woofs from Harry Spaniel.

  7. Poor baby. I got home from Christmas travel and one of my cats was desperately ill and no vets are open until Monday. Though I had paid someone to feed all the animals, she didn't notice Midge was sick. I have started her on antibiotics, but she still seems pretty sick. That and an almost run in with a skunk and my two weenies. It was hissing and its tail spread like a peacock's when I grabbed the weenies up and we ran back to the house. Thank God it didn't decide to spray us.

  8. sorry to hear about Ted, lets hope it clears up soon, if honey doesn't do it nothing will.
I've become a devotee of Manuka honey and take it twice a day, I can't tell you how much better I feel. I recently started a cold and honey and cinnamon soon put paid to that. I tell people but they think I'm a crank. lol
You are obviously on my wave length. ha ha.
Happy new year to you and yours.

  9. Oh Teddy!!! What did I just say to you a few days ago about trying to stay away from the v.e.t. this year! You poor fellow. The best thing to do is this, let Poppy take the strain of caring duties - it will do her good - and let her do the pigeon guarding and any vole watching - that will also keep her busy and away from you. Let Mum take very good care of you and keep the bandage on - you will get lots of sympathy if you are wearing it. Also, ask Poppy if she will give you her cheese ration! Look after yourself little fellow. Big hugs and lots of love Aunty Amy xx p.s. tell Mum that I will be in touch about the thing we discussed before Christmas in the week. xx

    1. I did try REALLY HARD Aunty Amy but I don't know what happened :o( I have told Poppy about your suggestions. She has agreed to take over my pigeon and vole watching duties, but balked at the cheese. I am working on her by looking as sad as I possibly can. Mum says lovely re the thing you discussed, but only if you absolutely have time. Lots of Love, Teddy (and Poppy) XXX

I think I am starting to feel a bit better. Mum's just taken my bandage off and the whole thing isn't looking too awful and I haven't tried to scratch it. Although Poppy wants to lick the honey. Cheese does work wonders, you are right. All the best from me and Pop, Ted XX

  26. Poor Ted, I hope you are feeling better. I am very glad though that you shared your tip about the healing powers of honey, I will be definitely be trying that out the next time I have eczema.
