Amazing Photo- Have You Seen This Weasel On The Back Of A Woodpecker?

One of my college friends showed me this, he says it hasn't been faked. Apparently, the weasel was attacking the woodpecker at the time and the woodpecker took off with it on its back. It looks unbelievable, but weasels are tenacious predators, so who knows?

      Apparently, the weasel got off and ran into the grass when the woodpecker landed. Bitten off more than it could chew... :o) xx

      Female weasels weigh less than a mars bar so it is possible.

      I always think of Mars Bars as being heavy, but I've never eaten a weasel.

      I thought is was photo-shopped to begin with but apparently not. Tendon is much better for limiting computer and writing time, thank you for asking :o) Hopefully it'll be back to full health before long. What a ridiculous injury to have though! Hope you're all well xx

    I saw it on the news and apparently the woodpecker landed on the ground and the weasel took off allowing the woodpecker to fly off relatively unscathed - I felt really sorry for the bird - he looked quite frightened in the photo.

    What an incredible photo! I feel for the woodpecker, but have read that he got away safely. I wonder how the weasel enjoyed his flight!

    Goodness, poor woodpecker. And imagine if the weasel fell off and landed on someone's head. What a surprise that would be. I think I'd be screaming. CJ xx

      It is quite extraordinary isn't it? I wonder if the weasel regretted it? Rabbits are their more regular prey xx

    Saw it on the dreaded Facebook CT, thought it looked a bit big for a Weasel compared to the Woodpecker but may it's real.

      Apparently it's a proper photo. Talk about being in the right place at the right time! Whenever I've seen weasels before they've scarpered pronto :o)

    It boggles my brain because I cant help thinking it's either a tiny weasel or a massive woodpecker!! I think/thought that weasels are ferret sized!!
    There have been some hilarious mocked up photos following on from this on the t'internet !!

    Have seen the photo a lot on Twitter - it really is amazing. I thought it may have been photoshopped but read somewhere that experts think its real :)

    I saw that and thought it was fake it was so incredible. Glad the bird survived. Amazing photo, I can't even manage to get a photo of a woodpecker without anything on its back!

      They are so hard to photograph well, the photographer must have thought all his Christmases had come at once. Glad both animals parted company whole and in good health :o)
